When
Susan B. Anderson's publisher contacted me about being part of the blog tour for
"Topsy-Turvy Inside-Out Knit Toys" I was more than happy to do so. As everyone surely knows by now, I'm a huge fan of Susan and her designs. She is a rock star in the knitting world, but even better, she's one of the nicest and most generous people you would ever hope to meet.

I love everything about this little book. It's cleverly designed with a pull-tab on the front cover to demonstrate how the toys work and is spiral bound (as I believe
all knitting books should be), which makes it easy to keep open while you are following the instructions. It's a great size to tuck into your knitting bag and the pages have an easy to read finish. The very best part is the toy designs. They are all cute, cute, cute! I can't even imagine how Susan thought up all these precious toys. They are designed with lots of unique features, but are not difficult to knit and Susan's directions are easy to follow and include an abundance of pictures to demonstrate exactly how to do details like the embroidered faces. Susan answers all your questions before you can even think to ask them! I took the book along with me to Michigan last week and spent a little while knitting up a toy. I had a difficult time making up my mind which one to knit because they are all so unique, but in the end decided I
had to start with the animals I knew best, the lamb and the bunny. Susan used fabulous
Quince & Co. yarn for her version but I decided I wanted to make mine with my natural colored handspun yarn from my own animals. (It occurred to me, too late, that knitting the bunny with some handspun angora would be really sweet, but then concluded that since babies love to put everything in their mouths, maybe a really fuzzy bunny might not be the best choice for baby gifting.)
I've had to discipline myself to not use the word
clever over and over again while describing this book and all the toys. On the front cover it states that these two-in-one reversible projects are "Magical" and that is true. So,
here's the good news for you. Leave a comment here and you'll be entered to win your very own copy of
"Topsy-Turvy Inside-Out Knit Toys". Tell me if you've knitted from one of Susan's books before or if you've ever taken one of her classes or if you're hoping for the chance to take a class from her some day! Comments will close at midnight on Sunday, September 29th. I'll use random.org to draw a number and will announce the winner on Monday morning. Good luck!!
Hi Dianne !!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful review !!!
And you are right ... Susan is Fabulous :0)
I have knit SO many of her projects !!!! Her patterns are so easy to follow.
I took her class at the KY Sheep and Fiber Festival and she was the Best !!!!!
I can't wait to try something out of her new book !!!!
I too am a huge fan of Susan's work. I have several of her books and would love to add this one to my collection. Is she coming back to Kentucky Fiber Festival any time soon?
ReplyDeleteI have knit from her baby clothing book, Itty Bitty Knits and would love the inside out topsy turvy!! I'm sure Atticus will enjoy the toys you make or him. She is coming to Vogue Knitting Live in Chicago in Nov. so perhaps I'll get to meet her.
ReplyDeleteI haven't made anything like the "Topsy-Turvy inside out" toys but I did just finish two of her dragons! I did a pretty coral colored dragon to pair with a book about a "part time princess" who is a little girl by day but a dragon riding princess by night and a lime green one with a couple of dragon stories for a little boy. They are for older toddler children in my family for Christmas. The pattern was so very well written; I am sure this book will be a winner, too!
ReplyDeleteIt is the very rare occasion where I knit a toy not designed by Susan. To the point where my knitting friends have stopped asking, "Who designed that _____ toy pattern?"--they all already know. Someday I'm going to track down a conference that she's teaching at an attend. Perhaps I'll head to KY to "visit relatives" and then sneak over to the KFF if she teached there again.

I have not yet made anything from Susan's works, but would like to. Her designs look lovely!
ReplyDeleteSusan E
I've never even heard of Susan, or seen anything like these ingenious toy designs! Squeeeeee! They would be just the thing to knit for my toddler nephew or any baby shower to which I'm invited!
ReplyDeleteI've taken both of Susan's Craftsy classes. They're great, she's a terrific teacher. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
ReplyDeleteJan (dannjan1025@msn.com)
I would love to knit one of Susan's toy patterns or take one of her classes. I have yet to do either. I follow her blog, which I love.
ReplyDeleteI *love* Susan's designs and I'm sure my daughter would be thrilled for me to knit the toys in this book for her. I've never taken a class from Susan, but I have bought all of her Craftsy classes, waiting for me to make the time to watch them. I have her Spud and Chloe At The Farm book, with enough yarn to knit about 1/3 of the animals in the book. So far, none of them have jumped on my needles (and if I won the Topsy-Turvy book, Spud & Chloe will continue to live in the book, not on my needles). I have knit her free Ribbit and Rabbit patterns -- which my daughter ADORES -- and her "Go Team!" hat. Ribbit and Rabbit were so popular, that I knit them up again and am donating them to a non-profit I'm involved with to be used as part of a fundraising raffle (thanks S&C for allowing charity use of the patterns!). I can't gush enough about Susan's design, her personality, and just the goodness that she puts out there. OK, I probably sound like a stalker. lol I promise I'm not!
ReplyDelete-greg (drmellow on Ravelry, check out my projects to see the Susan designs I've already completed)
Since this is randomly-drawn I figured I could enter. :) I love reading Susan's blog because she always has the cutest things on needles. She's such a sock fiend and I am too! I love the turtle-to-egg toy. I haven't tried to knit a toy yet (not up to that expert level) but when I do I'm totally going to use Susan's patterns.
ReplyDeleteI've never knit one of Susan's patterns but I find them totally charming and would love to win her book.
ReplyDeleteI have 3 or 4 of Susan's books and they are GREAT!! I have knit many of the baby hats from her hats book, a teddy bear from her nursery book, and Spud from her On the Farm book. I have also met her and she is a very warm and friendly person. This latest book looks like a lot of fun. Thanks to both of you for this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteOh to win her book would be such a blessing!!! I long to knit one of her sweet and charming itty bitty patterns.
ReplyDeleteI have knitted from Itty Bitty toys and I love it. Very exciting

DeleteI have just been knitting for a few years, and only recently started hearing about Susan B. Anderson (I know... I must have been living under a rock!). All of a sudden, I'm listening to and watching podcasts, and pondering Craftsy... She's everywhere, sounds like such a fabulous person, and I would love to make a Topsy Turvy toy my first SBA knit! :)

ReplyDeleteI have not knitted from one of Susan's books. I am also hoping for the chance to take a class from Susan some day!
Good Luck All!
Btw... my name is Sandra.

ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of all things Susan B. Anderson. There is no such thing as too many SBA books, so I would love the chance to get this! Thanks, ravID maashrink

ReplyDeleteI have knit a ton if Susan patterns. They are by far my favorites! I love your natural version of the lamb and bunny too! I was lucky enough to have taken a few classes from Susan and I hope to do so again soon! I also look forward to following your blog now... Thanks. Kristebee (on rav)
ReplyDeleteThis book looks so cool! I've knit Susan's Elefante, but nothing from one of her books. I'd love to try these inside out toys!
ReplyDeleteI love knitting Susan's toys. I've knit several from Itty Bitty Toys and I would love a chance to win Topsy Turvy. The Hippo has been my favorite. I also signed up for her Craftsy Class that was on sale for the Not So Itty Bitty Giraffe. Your lamb and bunny is just precious. How wonderful to be able to use the wool from your own sheep. I am so jealous.
